After announcing they would be stepping back from their senior royal duties, the Duke and Duchess returned to England for a final week of engagements with their patronages. As they discussed in their Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan,” this tour was a way for them to leave on a high note, and boy did they.
Meghan’s wardrobe during this trip is stuff of legends. I would actually go so far as to say that 2020 is the year she cemented herself as a fashion icon. While I am a lover of neutrals on Meghan, I can’t deny how fetching the color-bomb truly was. The goal was to stand out from the crowd, and she achieved it. While at the same time sticking to her minimalist and modern sensibilities.
While they did more than the four events pictured in the header that week, these are the ones that truly stand out when it comes to media coverage and viral impact.
Their first engagement back was the Endeavour Fund Awards, which were founded by Prince Harry in 2012 to award servicemen and women who have used sport in their rehabilitation. The charity has since been merged with the Invictus Games. Meghan wore a stunning blue Victoria Beckham dress with glam by Daniel Martin and hair by George Northwood.
After their first engagement back, Meghan went solo to Robert Clarks upper school for an international women’s day assembly. She wore a blazer by Me+EM, cropped trousers, and a boatneck shirt by Lavender Hill Clothing.
Next up is the Mountbatten Festival of Music. The festival is a 2-night musical event meant to benefit the royal marines. Meghan wore a striking Safiyaa caped dress, and Harry wore his Captain General of the Royal Marines uniform. He stepped down from the position in 2020.
Finally, at the end of the tour is the Commonwealth Service. Wearing a striking green caped midi dress by Emilia Wickstead, Meghan gave a new meaning to power dressing. Her poise and grace throughout the service and indeed the entire tour were something to behold. In fact, it was this tour that I became a fan and started following the Sussexes story. They were just so modern. So fresh and bright. The love and charisma just poured from both of them and have remained until today. It’s a good lesson for everyone. Don’t try to hide your light under a bushel or play down your own good qualities in an effort to blend in. Be yourself, always.
