This was originally posted on my Instagram for my Meghan Style Cues series.
Upon her marriage to her husband, Prince Harry, Meghan was gifted pieces from his mother Princess Diana’s famous personal collection of jewelry. It was never made public the extent of what Diana had owned. Or who got what items. So it was a welcomed surprise that for her wedding reception the famous aquamarine ring made it’s debut on The Duchess of Sussex.
While Diana had only worn the accessory publically twice before her passing, she had a clear POV of what she preferred to wear it with. Two dazzling blue gowns and a set of pearl drop earrings. While for her part, Meghan has worn the gem publically three times in total, she also has a clear view point on what she styles it with. Differing from Diana, Meghan has only worn the ring with gorgeous bright white gowns and diamonds. At her wedding reception, at an event in Tonga and receiving the Ripple of Hope Award in NYC.
The indivduality of the two women is shown extremely clearly in this instance. Where it would’ve been easy to lean on what Diana had trailblazed before her, Meghan chose to depend on her personality and keen eye to make the most of the ring for herself. Which is what Diana was actually doing in the first place.
All in all, the lesson here is that even if you are wearing the same item, it is not necessary to be reliant on what someone else has done. Individuality, idenity, and ideas are something that can’t be taught.
