Harry’s satorial choices as said in “Spare”

I didn’t care about clothes, mine or anyone else’s. Prince Harry, Spare p. 30.

Harry’s approach to fashion is nowhere near as talked about as his wife and mothers, but his wardrobe’s journey has been just as fascinating to watch.

I was crashing with Pa and Camilla, some days at St. James’s, some days at Highgrove, largely living out of a suitcase, so I didn’t give a damn about clothes. I looked most days as if I’d got dressed in a very dark and disordered room. Spare, p.71

Throughout ‘Spare,’ he detailed how little effort he put into his appearance prior to meeting Meghan. One of the first things he noticed about his future wife was her chicness (same, Harry, same), even though he admitted he didn’t know what chicness was. As Harry said in their engagement interview, he had to up his game here, and I am willing to bet it meant wanting to look presentable when going to events with her, both in public and in private.

Since day one of their relationship, the Sussexes immediately started establishing their visual unity and how they would work in tandem to present themselves to the public. One clear example is their first appearance after announcing their engagement. Harry’s outfits are always in line with what his wife is wearing without overmatching or following a formula. When it comes to couples dressing, it’s easy to overdo it, but his ensemble was just as interesting to look at as Meghan’s. Keeping a color theme but adjusting where each one is present on the body (Meghan had on a camel skirt, while Harry had on a camel scarf).

Another instance of Harry having fun sartorially is during the farewell tour, when Harry’s jacket lining matched the brilliant green of his wife’s dress. A unique way of displaying unity without trying to hard.

As a working royal, Harry almost never wore anything but a blue suit, but after stepping back from the role, he started experimenting with color in both suiting and his dress shirts. He even wore a green two-piece for their Times 100 article.

He has also embraced diplomatic dressing. Having worn a tuxedo designed by black British designer Ozwald Boateng for NAACP awards in 2022.

On the whole, Harry is a good style inspiration for men everywhere. Even ones that don’t care about clothes. He always looks well groomed, no matter what the situation calls for. Be it leisurewear, casual events, or black tie without sacrificing comfort of wear or his own personal taste. Other men with high profiles should take note of him. No looking sloppy when his woman is all done up!
