Next month is the inaugural winter Invictus Games in Vancover and Whistler Canada. With it comes a pleathera of events featuring our favorite Duke and Duchess.
What are the Invictus Games? They are biennial Olympic-style sporting events for wounded servicemen and women founded by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, in 2014.
Since her courtship with Harry started in 2016, Meghan has become a staple part of the Invictus family. Having given both opening and closing speeches at the Hauge and Australia games, respectively. In fact, it was the Invictus Games where she and Harry made their first public appearance as a couple in Canada. There she wore a white button-down Misha Nonoo top and distressed Mother Denim jeans.
Although this post is about Meghan’s wardrobe choices throughout the games, it’s important to note that the heart of Invictus is in the athletes and their recovery. While Meghan always looks well groomed and is naturally chic, she never overdresses for the events and always centers the veterans.
Now, lets get into the fashion of it all. I will only be discussing my most standout outfits, or else this post would be a mile long. Feel free to share your favorite look in the comments.
The 2023 games were probably, in my opinion, the best ones so far for Meghan when it comes to her outfits and styling. Even though she was wearing more mid-range pieces than years past, she still looked elegant and fashionable. Above, Meghan is attending the wheelchair basketball match between Australia and Ukraine and is wearing a Jcrew cardigan that promptly sold out on their website. Her skills in color blocking shine brightly here. Instead of following her past formula of statement coat over neutral base, she had fun with the black, white, and gold theme and built her outfit around it.
I’ve said it before on my Instagram and other sites that one of my favorite silhouettes on Meghan is a sleeveless, high-necked one. So imagine my pleasure when she stepped out for the True Paitrot Love reception in a sleeveless turtleneck dress by Toteme. Meghan baring her shoulders, be it in a pantsuit, dress, gown, or separates, is always a hit, and this outting was no different. It’s a great way to veer on the sexy side without losing your modesty.
Another fun look Meghan wore during the Düsseldorf games was to the swimming medal ceremony. Although the look was relatively simple, the paperbag waist of her Cuyana trousers added interest to the outfit. Harry also matched her perfectly without being too obvious.
Lastly, for the 2023 Düsseldorf Games closing ceremony, Meghan wore a gorgeous Cult Gaia lazer cut gown in seamoss. The dress is absolutely perfect for being both formal and laidback at the same time. The lack of necklace works perfectly to make the outfit appear a tad less formal. Harry also deviated from his usual outfit formula and wore a dark grey suit and black dress shirt for his final speech, which flattered him nicely.
All in all, the games were a resounding success, and I for one can’t wait to watch for this year’s winter sports and yes, winter fashion.
